INSIDE ROOMRR / PRIVACY, EXPLAINED

What your roommate quiz answers reveal.
And who can see them.

Your sleep schedule has entered the chat. Here’s what Roomrr does with your answers, what future roommates can see, and where the boundaries are.

Three roommates explore quiz cards about sleep, cleaning, guests and personal space while a cat peeks from a moving box.
Your future home has a vibe. Your answers help explain yours. The cat remains undecided.

A room can look perfect in photos and still come with a 2 a.m. kitchen DJ. Beautiful natural light. Unexpected nightclub subscription.

That’s why finding a roommate takes more than checking the rent and asking, “You’re chill, right?” Roomrr’s roommate compatibility quiz brings everyday expectations into the conversation before you share a home.

But questions about your routine deserve answers about your privacy. What do your roommate quiz answers reveal? Who can see them? And are they only used to calculate a score? Let’s unpack it.

THE SHORT VERSION

Structured quiz answers can be visible on your Roomrr profile, even before you connect with someone. They also help calculate compatibility. Contact details follow separate rules, and the group quiz has its own results experience.

01 / YOUR EVERYDAY SETTINGS

Your habits. Your boundaries. Your very specific feelings about dishes.

The quiz asks about shared-home life: cleaning, guests, sleep, shared expenses, borrowing belongings, working from home, and personal space.

These answers describe the kind of living arrangement you prefer. They do not verify your behaviour, diagnose your personality, or establish whether you’re a good person.

YOU “I’d rather keep groceries separate.”

WHAT THAT MEANS A preference about sharing food.

WHAT IT DOESN’T MEAN A villain origin story involving oat milk.

Wanting quiet evenings doesn’t mean you dislike people. Wanting your own shelf doesn’t mean you’re preparing a courtroom case against communal ketchup. It gives a prospective roommate useful context.

There is no universal “best roommate” setting. The useful question is whether your expectations can work together.

02 / BEHIND THE MATCH

Different answers don’t automatically mean a bad match.

You go to bed at 11. Your potential roommate comes alive at midnight. Plot twist: this might be completely fine.

If they use headphones and you sleep comfortably through normal household noise, different schedules may be manageable. If you wake easily and their nightly routine involves speakerphone calls, there’s something to discuss.

Two illustrated versions of a shared bedroom: a night owl quietly wearing headphones beside a sleeping roommate, then a loud phone call keeping that roommate awake.
Same sleep schedules. Very different consideration levels. Even the cat has feedback.

Roomrr translates quiz answers into dimensions of shared living, including cleanliness, noise, guests, boundaries, and personal space. The system considers preferences and tolerance, alongside the priorities you choose.

Where the quiz supports a dealbreaker, that requirement is treated differently from an ordinary preference. Something you cannot comfortably live with should carry more weight than something you barely notice.

A compatibility score is a conversation starter. It isn’t a warranty for someone’s dishwashing habits.

The report helps surface potential strengths and friction points. You still need to talk about what those differences would look like in your actual home.

03 / THE VISIBILITY CHECK

So, who can actually see my quiz answers?

Other users can see eligible structured quiz answers on your profile, including before a connection is established. Your answers aren’t only hidden ingredients in a matching score.

Structured answers are selections from predefined options. The profile system supports single-choice, multiple-choice, boolean, slider, and range answers. These can appear as profile content for unconnected viewers.

PROFILE VISITORS

Structured answers

Someone viewing your profile can learn about the lifestyle preferences you’ve shared, rather than seeing only a match percentage.

CONNECTED PEOPLE

Additional answer types and contact details

Free-text and date answers are excluded for unconnected profile viewers. Connected viewers can receive these answers too. Your phone number and social links have a separate connection-based gate.

INTERNAL GROUP TOOLS

Permission-controlled staff access

Roomrr’s compatibility-group administration includes participant answers and contact information. Group answers are not visible only to the person who submitted them.

What counts as a connection?

In the current profile rules, a connection can be a mutual roommate match, a booking relationship that has not been cancelled or rejected, or membership in a shared chat, including a group chat.

That last detail matters: a connection doesn’t only mean accepting someone as your future roommate.

Does answering the quiz reveal my phone number?

Quiz-answer visibility and contact visibility are separate. On the profile-viewing endpoint, your phone number and social links are withheld from unconnected viewers. They can become available when someone has a qualifying connection with you.

The text and date rules describe formats the profile system supports; they don’t mean the current roommate quiz asks for every kind of information.

Treat quiz answers as potential profile content. Think “introducing my living preferences,” rather than “dear diary, here is everything.”

04 / THE GROUP CHAT EDITION

Taking the quiz with friends? The results work differently.

Roomrr’s shareable compatibility groups use a separate results experience. After completing the questionnaire, participants can see other completed participants’ cards and compatibility results involving themselves.

The participant-facing results response does not return another participant’s full raw answer sheet. But an explanation can still reveal a preference: a conflict about guests tells you something about that part of shared living.

A missing answer sheet does not mean the results reveal nothing. Share thoughtfully, even when it’s your friends doing the quiz. Especially if the group chat already has receipts.

Permission-controlled internal group tools include answers and contact information, as described above.

05 / YOU CAN EVOLVE

New routine? Update the settings.

Starting a remote job might make daytime quiet matter more. Moving from a shared bedroom to separate rooms might change how you feel about sleep schedules.

In the app, you can update saved quiz answers. Roomrr rebuilds your compatibility profile when answers are saved so matching can reflect your revised preferences.

Completed submissions in a shareable compatibility group are treated as final within that group. That flow behaves differently from editing your app answers.

Also, changing an answer cannot undo information someone has already seen or saved. The internet, tragically, does not come with a universal “unsend.”

How to answer without overthinking it

  • Choose your real routine. Answer for Tuesday-you, not the imaginary version who deep-cleans before sunrise.
  • Be honest about boundaries. “Anything is fine” is unhelpful if overnight guests would regularly make you uncomfortable.
  • Use dedicated contact fields. Avoid putting phone numbers, addresses, or sensitive personal details into free-text answers.
  • Have the follow-up conversation. Ask what “clean,” “quiet,” and “occasional guests” mean in practice.
06 / QUESTIONS, MINUS THE SPIRAL

Roommate quiz privacy: quick answers.

Are my Roomrr roommate quiz answers private?

Not all answers are private to you. Eligible structured answers can appear on your profile for unconnected viewers. Matching also uses your answers. The group quiz has a separate results flow.

Can someone see my answers before we match?

Yes. Structured answers can be visible to someone viewing your profile before a mutual match. Free-text and date answers are excluded for unconnected profile viewers.

Does a high compatibility score guarantee a good roommate?

No. It reflects the information used by the matching system. It cannot verify behaviour or predict every situation. Use it to guide a conversation about living together.

Can everyone in a compatibility group read my full answer sheet?

The participant-facing results response does not return another participant’s full raw answer sheet. Results and explanations can still reveal preferences, and permission-controlled staff tools include answers.

Can I edit my roommate quiz answers?

You can update saved answers in the app. Completed submissions in a shareable compatibility group are final within that group. Updates cannot remove information other people have already seen.

Finding a roommate starts with clear expectations. Knowing who can see those expectations is part of deciding what to share.

Your home should feel like your comfort zone. Start by being clear about what that actually means to you.
